We have trained over a thousand mediation professionals in North Carolina, across the US and in Europe.
We provide training in all of the mediation programs certified by the Dispute Resolution Commission
Superior Court Mediated Settlement Conferences (MSC),
District Court Family Financial Settlement (FFS),
Mediation of Matters before the Clerk (Clerk),
Mediation of District Court Criminal cases (DCC),
6-Hour Legal Terminology, Court Structure and Civil Procedure training
(required pre-requisite for non-lawyers to take the MSC and FFS 40-hour mediation training courses)
We also offer training in mediating employment and workplace disputes.
Registration forms are downloadable below. Our online classes have limited seating and over the last two years they have all sold out.
Certification is required for mediators mediating in the state court system and other adjunct programs that also use the state court certifed mediators, such as the NC Dept of Labor, the NC Inductrial Commission (workers' compensation cases) and the federal courts in NC.
A mediator's certification is provided by the NC Dispute Resolution Commission.
The first step in getting certified is training. However, as part of the certification process, the Dispute Resolution Commission also requires education and experience.
These requirements are listed in Rule 8 for the MSC program and Rule 8 for the FFS program.
They generally require a university degree or graduate degree, five to ten years of work experience in a professional field or supervisory position.

Before taking the FFS training an applicant must have completed at least twelve hours of workshops or videos on basic family law ofr have completed four years of family law work experience or be a family law specialist. Information on a 12-hour family law video may be found below.
Non-lawyers are required to show basic knowledge of the North Carolina Court system by taking a 6-hour video course on NC Legal Terminology, Court Structure and Civil Procedure. This program is offered as a YouTube video on demand. Once you are registered and givne access ot the links, you can watch it at any time you choose.

Frank Laney has been mediating since 1985, helped design and implement the court-based mediation programs in North Carolina, was Circuit Mediator for the US Court of Appeals for 25 years, mediating over 5000 cases
